What we collect, and why

Thank you for using agereviews.com (the “Service”), operated by DKTK Tech S.L. (“we”, “us”). We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard your personal data, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Spanish data protection law (including the Ley Orgánica de Protección de Datos y Garantía de los Derechos Digitales, LOPDGDD).

agereviews.com is an early-stage service. We keep the data we hold to the minimum needed to run it, and this page describes all of it.

DKTK Tech S.L. is the data controller for any personal data collected through the Service.

2. Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to personal data we collect through agereviews.com. Our corporate website at dktk.tech, and each of our other apps and services, have their own privacy policies covering the processing specific to them.

3. What personal data we collect

We may collect the following categories of personal data when you visit or use the Service:

Waitlist email

If you join the waitlist with your email address, we store that email so we can write to you when we open. Nothing else is attached to it.

Discord account information

If you sign in with Discord, Discord shares your username, email address and avatar with us. We use these to operate your account — for example, so we can identify you as a member of what will become a paid service. Your Discord identity is visible only to site administrators; it is never shown publicly and never sent to our analytics.

Your activity on the Service

How far through each review you have watched, the experience points and rank that follow from it, the practice checklist you write for yourself, and the record of each review round you complete. The checklist is free text you author, so please do not put anything in it you would not want stored.

Linked game account

If you choose to connect Steam, we receive your Steam ID from Steam’s sign-in service and use it to look up the matching Age of Empires II player profile, storing that profile ID and your in-game name. Connecting is optional, and you can disconnect at any time from your dashboard, which deletes the link and the match history imported with it.

Age of Empires II match history

Once a game account is linked, we import your recent ranked matches: map, game mode, civilisations, result, rating change, duration and timestamps, together with the unmodified data we received. We use this to tie your practice checklist to games you actually played.

Other players in your matches

A match record necessarily includes the other people in that game. For each we store their public in-game name, player ID, country, civilisation and rating change, exactly as published by the game’s own public match-history service. This is public competitive-play data, is only ever shown to you as part of your own match, and is never used to build a profile of those players or to contact them.

Coaching reviews of your games

If we produce a review of one of your games, it contains recorded footage of that game and commentary about it. Each review has a visibility setting that controls who can watch it, and reviews of your own games are not made public without your agreement.

Usage data

Technical information collected automatically, such as pages viewed and interactions with the player, used to understand how the Service is used and to fix faults.

We do not intentionally collect any special categories of personal data (e.g. health, religion, biometric data). Please refrain from submitting such data unless specifically requested.

4. How we use your data

We use personal data only for lawful and legitimate purposes, including:

To operate and maintain the Service

Run your account and library access, record your progress through reviews, award experience points, and unlock a checklist round when you finish a game.

To produce and deliver coaching reviews

Prepare reviews of your games and make them available to you.

To improve the Service

Monitor and analyse usage, fix bugs, and improve the experience.

To communicate with you

Tell you when we open to new members, and respond to your messages and requests.

Legal compliance

Comply with legal obligations under the laws of Spain and the European Union, respond to lawful requests by public authorities, or exercise our legal rights in legal proceedings.

5. Legal bases for processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

Performance of a contract: to run your account and provide the Service you signed up for, including producing your reviews.
Consent: where you have given us clear consent for a specific purpose — joining the waitlist, and connecting a game account, which is entirely optional and withdrawable.
Legitimate interests: operating, securing, analysing and improving the Service, provided these do not override your rights and interests. Storing the other players named in your match records rests on this basis: a match cannot be represented accurately without them, and the data is already public.
Legal obligations: when necessary to comply with our legal or regulatory obligations under Spanish and EU law.

6. How we share your data

We will never sell your personal data. However, we may share your personal data with:

Service providers

Third-party companies who provide services on our behalf. We use Supabase for our database and authentication, and PostHog for product analytics. These parties are bound by contractual obligations to process personal data only in accordance with our instructions and applicable data protection laws.

Services you choose to connect

Discord, when you sign in with it. Steam, when you choose to connect a game account. Their own privacy policies govern what they do with your data.

Sources we read game data from

To import your match history we send your public player ID to the Age of Empires II match-history service operated by World’s Edge and to the community-run aoe2companion service, which return details of matches you have played. We do not send them your name, email or anything else about your account.

Embedded video

Reviews hosted on YouTube are played through YouTube’s embedded player, so Google may receive information about that playback in accordance with its own privacy policy.

Legal and regulatory authorities

If required by law or to protect our legal rights and comply with lawful demands from public authorities.

Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area — our analytics provider processes data in the United States. We will ensure that any data transfers outside the EEA comply with GDPR requirements (e.g. by using EU Standard Contractual Clauses or ensuring the recipient is in a jurisdiction with an adequacy decision).

7. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to collect technical usage data. Cookies are small text files placed on your device to store information. The cookies we set are those required to operate the Service — principally your login session — together with analytics that help us understand how the Service is used. You can manage your cookie preferences through your browser settings, although blocking certain cookies will prevent you from signing in.

8. Data security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. Access to member data is restricted at the database level so that each member can read only their own records. However, no security system is impenetrable. If you believe your personal data has been compromised, please contact us immediately at hello@dktk.tech.

9. Data retention

We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by applicable laws. Once personal data is no longer needed, we securely erase or anonymise it. Ask us to close your account and we remove it in full — account, Discord identity, waitlist entry, any linked game account and the match history imported with it. You do not need to ask us to unlink a game account: disconnecting it from your dashboard deletes the link and the imported matches immediately.

10. Children’s privacy

agereviews.com is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Your rights

Under the GDPR and Spanish data protection law, you have the following rights:

Access: You can request information about the processing of your personal data and obtain a copy.
Rectification: You can request correction of your personal data if it is inaccurate or incomplete.
Erasure: You can ask us to delete or remove your personal data where there is no valid reason for us to continue processing it.
Restriction: You can ask us to suspend the processing of certain parts of your personal data.
Objection: You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests, on grounds relating to your particular situation.
Portability: You can request your personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format to transmit to another controller.
Withdraw consent: Where we rely on your consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

12. Third-party links

The Service may include links to third-party websites, plugins or applications. We have no control over how these third parties process your personal data. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party websites you visit.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Any changes will become effective upon posting of the updated Policy on the Service. Please review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your personal data.
